At least ten people have been killed in an attack near the Kabul base of foreign firm, which provides support services to NATO forces in Afghanistan.
Five guards and two Afghan civilians were among those who lost their lives,
A car bomb triggered a large explosion. Insurgents then engaged in a brief gunfight with security forces.
A contractor at the plant explained: “We didn’t understand what was happening at the beginning. Then we heard the shooting of Kalashnikovs.”
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
In May, Afghan forces assumed security responsibility for the whole country – but international troops will remain there until the end of 2014, providing back-up when needed.
