Greek PM reshuffles cabinet amid government crisis

Greece’s Socialist PASOK party leader, Evangelos Venizelos, is back on the government front bench as the prime minister bids to quell the crisis over the closure of its state broadcaster.

He has been named deputy prime minister and foreign minister after the Democratic Left’s exit inflicted a heavy blow on the ruling coalition.

In a televised address the government’s spokesman Simos Kediloglou also announced that Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras would keep his job and remain Greece’s key negotiator with international lenders who will return for an inspection visit to Athens later this month.

In an updated coalition agreement likely to be released this week, Prime Minister Samaras is expected to reiterate his pledge to meet fiscal goals.
