Blanc appointed PSG coach

With Carlo Ancelotti leaving the French champions to strengthen Los Merengues, former Manchester United defender Laurent Blanc has been appointed as the Italian’s replacement at Paris St Germain.

The 47-year-old, who had been out of work since stepping down as France coach after Euro 2012, has agreed a two-year contract at the Parc des Princes.

Blanc, who captained Les Bleus to victory on home soil at the 1998 World Cup, has previously had professional coaching experience at Bordeaux from 2007-2010, leading them to the Ligue 1 title in 2009.

PSG begin their title defence against the 2012 champions Montpellier on August 10.
