Belgium’s Steve Darcis produced a superb display to stun World No. 5 Rafael Nadal in straight sets in the first round of Wimbledon on Monday.
The Spaniard, who was bidding for a third title here, made to many unforced errors and eventually lost 7-6 7-6 6-4 in one hour and 24 minutes.
This was Nadal’s first career defeat in the opening round of a Grand Slam. Last year, he lost in the second round to Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic before suffering a knee injury that kept him out for seven months.
