Danish driver Allan Simonsen has died following a crash during the Le Mans race in France.
According to reports, the 34-year-old, who finished second in the GT2 class at Le Mans three years ago, spun off after about 10 minutes of the race in his Aston Martin before hitting the safety barriers.
The safety car came out after the crash and the race was held up for nearly an hour. Simonsen was immediately taken to the medical centre at the premises but died soon after arrival.
His death is believed to be the first at Le Mans since 1997 when France’s Sebastien Enjolras lost his life in pre-qualifying.
