One of Judaism’s holiest sites, the Western Wall in Jerusalem, was closed off on Friday morning after a security guard shot and killed a man who had just been shouting “Allahu Akbar” in a nearby public convenience.
The victim turned out to be an Israeli Jew in his 40s, and police are now investigating his motives for the act which cost him his life.
Police say a number of shots were fired, and that it appeared he was shot because the guard believed he was a Palestinian militant about to commit some kind of attack.
The incident took place just as hundreds of people were gathering for prayer.
