Sonny Rollins had to cancel his concert at the Vienne Jazz Festival. The 83-year old American saxophonist has serious respiratory problems. The organisers invited other giants of American jazz to replace him.
The director of the festival, Stéphane Kochoyan told Euronews that the 83-year old pianist, Ahmad Jamal comes to Europe especially to play in Vienne on the 10th of July. Another veteran, the 93-year old saxophonist, Yusef Lateef will play with the Jamal trio.
One of the biggest jazz festivals of Europe starts on the 28th of June in Vienne. From classic jazz, through fusion, blues, world and Latin music, all styles are represented in the program, in the French city near Lyon.
Among others you can hear Marcus Miller, Chick Corea, Jacky Terrasson, The Rosenberg Trio, Roberto Fonseca, Omara Portuondo, Avishai Cohen, Charles Lloyd, Chucho Valdés, George Benson, Erik Truffaz and Carlos Santana.
The two-week festival finishes the 13th of July. An additional concert will be held: the Canadian guitarist-singer, Neil Young will play on the 15th of July.
