Celebrations have been taking place to mark the 90th birthday of Israel’s President Shimon Peres, although his real birthday is on August 2.
Some 3,000 guests and VIPs gathered at Jerusalem’s International Convention Center, among them Tony Blair, Britain’s former prime minister.
In his tribute he said: “Shimon has been defence minister, finance minister, foreign minister, prime minister, it is his birthday, he is 90, now he is president … what comes next? Well, we in Britain have our Queen, and you have your Shimon!”
