Seven jailed for killing of Dutch linesman

Six teenagers and a 51-year-old man have been jailed in the Netherlands for their role in the death of a volunteer linesman following a youth football game in December.

The family of the 41- year old victim Richard Nieuwenhuizen, who was officiating his son’s match, crammed into the courthouse in Lelystad to see the six amateur footballers and the father of one of the players convicted of manslaughter.

The Father identified only as El-Hasan D was sentenced to six years in prison.

Five of the teenagers were given two-year sentences in youth detention for their roles in the post-match attack on Nieuwenhuizen and another was sentenced to a year.
