Crisis has enveloped the Czech parliament prompting questions about the future of the government.
Police organized crime units raided government offices, seizing documents and making arrests.
Among those arrested was Prime Minister Petr Necas’ closest aide, Jana Nagyova.
Police refused to give details behind the raid which involved hundreds of officers, some armed and wearing balaclavas.
Centre-left opposition leader Bohuslac Sobotka has called for the Prime Minister’s resignation, along with elections to re-appoint the cabinet.
However; Necas insists he has done nothing wrong. In a statement he said:
“I am personally convinced that I have not committed any dishonest act and nothing dishonest has been committed by my colleagues. I have no reason to consider resignation nor the fall of the government”
Reports from the Czech Republic claim that premises of politically-connected businesses were also searched.
