Inter Milan’s veteran captain Javier Zanetti has been given a one-year contract extension despite facing months on the sidelines with an archilles injury and turning 40 in August.
Zanetti has been out of action since having surgery on his ruptured archilles at the end of April and is likely to spend another six months on the road to recovery.
The Argentine defender has played over 840 games for the Italian club. During his time there he has helped them to five league titles, four Italian Cups, the UEFA Cup and the 2010 Champions League crown.
