Barcelona’s Argentina forward and his father have been accused by Spanish tax authorities of defrauding the state of more than four million euros.
The pair have allegedly filed fraudulent tax returns for four years in a row, starting from 2006.
Messi has expressed his surprise and denies the allegations.
The 25-year-old is one of the world’s highest paid sportsmen with a salary of around 20 million euros a season – excluding all his sponsorship deals, which are worth even more per year.
