Serbia’s Novak Djokovic reached his 12th consecutive Grand Slam semi-final following a straight sets win over Tommy Haas at Roland Garros on Wednesday.
The World number one, who committed just six unforced errors in the first set, needed a tie break to clinch the second before stepping it up a gear in the third, eventually winning through 6-3, 7-6, 7-5.
Djokovic will next lock horns with Spain’s Rafael Nadal with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga playing David Ferrer in the other semi-final.
And in the women’s draw, defending champion Maria Sharapova also progressed after downing Jelena Jankovic.
The 26 year old, who had entered the contest with a 7-1 win-loss record over her old sparring partner, overcame a dreadful opening set to edge out her opponent 0-6 6-4 6-3 and keep alive her hopes of retaining the Cup.
Sharapova will next face third-seeded Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka who beat Russian Maria Kirilenko 7-6 6-2.
