Real Madrid came back from nine points down in the last quarter to defeat arch-rivals Barcelona 74-67 .
The early lead taken by the Catalan side in the all-Spanish ‘El Clasico’ was remedied by sharp shooting forward Felipe Reyes.
He helped Real notch up 26 points in the final quarter to steal the lead with less than four minutes remaining.
Barcelona were hampered by injuries and their top Croatian centre Ante Tomic had to play 36 of the 40 minutes.
Real’s American-born forward Marcus Slaughter said:
“We knew they only had one centre so the plan from the start was to run him around, bump him a bit, and it worked, by the fourth quarter he was tired.”
Madrid are now just one match away from possibly earning their first Euroleague championship in nearly two decades but they still have to beat the reigning champions Olympiakos in the final.
