Orthodox Christians around the world took part in all night celebrations for Easter on Saturday.
As the lent fasting period ended, people gathered in churches and cathedrals to have their decorated eggs and Easter cakes, called Kulichi, blessed by priests.
The Russian president was among the hundreds of worshippers at the main cathedral in Moscow.
Easter is also one of the favourite holidays among Ukrainians where a holy flame brought all the way from Jerusalem was passed among the followers.
In Kiev too hundreds of people gathered for a ceremony on Saturday night going into Easter Sunday, the holiest day on the orthodox calendar.
