Many of the 130 elderly residents of West Rest Haven nursing home have been left shaken after an explosion at a fertilizer plant in Texas. The place they used to live has been reduced almost to rubble.
The residents were being evacuated from the nursing home due to the fire at Adair Grain’s fertilizer plant on Wednesday night, when the explosion happened.
Unsure of whether everyone made it out in time, workers have been searching for anyone trapped inside.
It is estimated up to 75 homes and buildings around the plant were destroyed or damaged in the explosion, including an apartment complex and a school gymnasium.
The blast had the force of a magnitude 2.1 earthquake and could be felt nearly 65 kilometres away.
