'Africa needs inclusive growth' - head of African Development Bank

Speaking at the Climate Parliament assembly in Brussels, the President of the African Development Bank, Donald Kaberuka, has called for further investment in renewable energy in Africa. Currently less than 10% of the continent’s potential is being exploited, with large parts capable of producing hydro power.

“We invest in ourselves, we work with governments to minimise risks and we make sure that institutions support independent regulatory agencies, allowing investors to feel reassured,” he said.

To enable more people to benefit from Africa’s expected average growth rate of 6% in 2013, Kaberuka wants to promote ‘inclusive growth’ stating: “opportunities should be open to all, which is why I want an emphasis on education, gender equality and small businesses.”
