Trapped Polish miners are rescued

All nineteen miners trapped in a Polish mine have been rescued after colleagues tunnelled through collapsed rock to reach them.

The miners had become trapped about 600 metres underground at the Rudna copper mine after a localised earth tremor caused a cave-in late on Tuesday night.

After the quake happened workers on the surface lost contact with the men for several hours due to the severing of communication lines.

All 19 are safe and said to be under going medical check-ups.
