David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook, based on Matthew Quick’s novel of the same name, tells the tale of Pat Solatano (Bradley Cooper), a man who has lost everything he had built as an adult: his house, his job and his wife. He now finds himself living back with his mother (Jack Weaver) and father (Robert DeNiro) after spending eight months of treatment for a bipolar disorder. Pat is determined to rebuild his life, remain positive and reunite with his wife.
When Pat meets Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence), a mysterious girl with problems of her own, things get complicated.
An onslaught of Hollywood stories on mental illness have been hits in Hollywood and beyond, including television show ‘Homeland,’ and the movie ‘Side Effects’ by Steven Soderbergh.
