Question from Coraline, Saint-Brieuc, France :

“Hello, young people today are among the first victims of the crisis in Europe. What are you going to do to help them?”

Answer from José Manuel Barroso, European Commission President :

“First of all, we understand very well the difficulties and we’re doing everything we can with the instruments we have to fight the problem of youth unemployment.

“There are decisions to be taken by governments but we can help with the European social fund, we’re redirecting the funds to create opportunities for people who go out of their studies to have either a possibility to find a job, a traineeship or an apprenticeship.

“We are doing – I repeat – everything we can with the instruments available to support young people finding a job.”
