Authorities in California have discovered 34 kilos of marijuana despite the stash being guarded by a 1.5-metre long alligator. Sheriff’s deputies in Castro Valley made the discovery during a probation compliance check in.
The processed marijuana was inside a bedroom while the animal, named Mr. Teeth, was living in a Plexiglas tank in the garden.
Police arrested the suspect, 32-year-old Assif Mayar, on drug possession and sales charges. Sheriff’s Sgt. JD Nelson said Mayar apparently acquired Mr. Teeth in 1996.
According to the police, the animal was used to scare away possible thieves. Following Mayar’s arrest, the alligator was transferred to Oakland Zoo, where he is being treated at the veterinary hospital.
