Many Europeans suffering economic hard times have been waiting anxiously for the winter sales, to finally see prices fall to levels they can afford. Spain’s sales started on Monday. TVE reported on balancing needs with tight budgets.

In Portugal, people are stretched perhaps worse than anywhere else in the EU, and household consumption is in freefall, breaking records. Portuguese RTP television reported on heavy pessimism.
In non-EU Switzerland, TSR television reported about the return of something the country had in the past which then disappeared; for a lucky few valley villages the grocery truck is back.
