A Japanese-led team of scientists has captured on film the world’s first live images of a giant squid. The pictures of the silvery, three metre long cephalopod were taken nearly one km below the surface off Japan’s southern coast. But it is a baby by giant squid standards, as the largest ever caught stretched 18 metres long.
