Pope Benedict has made six non-European prelates Roman Catholic cardinals at a ceremony in St.Peter’s Basilica. Those chosen are from the United States, India, Nigeria, the Philippines, Lebanon and Colombia.
Cardinals are the pope’s closest aides in the Vatican and run its key departments which administer dioceses around the world.
