South America emerged the clear winners at the 40th International Emmy Awards, with Argentinian pair Cristina Banegas and Dario Grandinetti picking up the Best Actress and Best Actor awards for their roles in “Television x La Inclusion”. It is the first time the same show has scooped the top acting honours.
Brazil also won two awards, along with Britain, and there were Emmys for France, Germany and Australia, along with personal awards for “All in the family” creator Norman Lear, and actor Alan Alda.
“That was a time where the door had been opened for us by Norman Lear. Because now we could be funny about things that were serious and Norman opened that door for us and the whole country,” praised Alda.
Veteran Alda will always be remembered for his smart-ass surgeon role in Korean army hospital comedy MASH.
