Vendee Globe over for Davies

British sailor Sam Davies, the only woman in this year’s round the world Vendee Globe yacht race, has made safe harbour in Madeira after her “Saveol” lost its mast, third time unlucky for the vessel, already a veteran of two round the world voyages.

She limped into port under her own steam to affect repairs, but her race is run for this year in the singlehanded marathon sailors have to cover nonstop, and without assistance.
With just a week’s racing completed four ships have already been forced out.
