There have been clashes between anti-austerity protestors and police in the Italian city of Naples.

The violence erupted when around 3,000 students and unemployed people gathered outside a convention centre where Italian government ministers were playing host to Germany’s Labour Minister Ursula von der Leyen.

A breakaway group of demonstrators hurled stones and bottles at riot police who replied with tear gas.

Two youths were briefly detained. No serious injuries were reported.
