An investigation has begun into the alleged embezzlement of more than 4.7 million euros during the preparations for the last APEC summit held in Vladivostock.
The port city in Russia’s east underwent a major revamp, including, two bridges, new motorways and an airport in preparation for the international gathering.
Vladivostok was specifically chosen by Russian President Vladimir Putin as the host city for the September meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation group made up of 21 Pacific Rim countries.
Russian news agency Novosti is reporting that a search has been carried out at the eastern directorate of the Regional Development Ministry.
In addition, a criminal case based on fraud charges has been opened. However, there are no suspects so far.
