New York city has woken up to the havoc caused by what is being called ‘Super Storm Sandy’, which hit the east coast of America on Monday night. Unlike last August, when Hurricane Irene passed through New York, those who haven’t been evacuated are dealing with massive flooding and power cuts.
Early estimates suggest Sandy may have caused 11.5 billion euros worth of destruction in the United States – a figure which will include the cost of damage to oil refineries on the east coast.
It is thought that figure may be impacted by an estimated 5.4 billion euros lost by the economy as employees stay at home, businesses stay closed and Wall Street stops trading for two days.
