Storm Sandy causes historic Wall Street closure

For the first time in more than 120 years, Wall Street is closed for a second consecutive day due to bad weather.

‘Super Storm’ Sandy has been wreaking havoc across the eastern states and especially in New York City, but the famous financial street is taking a break to ensure the safety of workers and traders.

The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) fell silent for one day in 1985 because of Hurricane Gloria.

The last time there was a two-day closure caused by weather was during the Great Blizzard in 1888.

Both the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq are expected to reopen on Wednesday.
