Euronews correspondent Kirsten Ripper is in Manhattan on holiday at the moment, and has given us a first-hand impression of a city under siege:
“At the moment, in New York there is hardly anyone on the streets. Most of those who were wandering around Manhattan were tourists who were determined to see the sights. Everything is shut, even the tourist attractions. The large and small shops are closed and people have piled sandbags in front of them. Meanwhile, electricity has been cut off in several areas of the city. It is still on in our hotel, but the management has apologized to the guests, for not cleaning the rooms, because the room-maids haven’t been able to get to the hotel”.
