US President Barack Obama has become the first American leader to cast an early vote ahead of the election for the White House on November 6.

The commander-in-chief travelled to his hometown Chicago.

Obama’s campaign team is keen to encourage voters in swing states to head to the ballot box early.

At least one poll suggests that a majority of those who have, picked Obama to lead the country for a second term.

But the latest Reuters/IPSOS poll shows a 1 point lead for his Republican challenger Mitt Romney.

While Obama made a gruelling two-day tour of eight swing states, Romney campaigned in Ohio.
