Syria has declared a ceasefire during Eid al-Adha, starting Friday. The army command says it will suspend military operations for the duration of the religious festival, but reserves the right to respond to rebel attacks.
Opposition forces are divided. The Free Syrian Army says it will honour the truce, but has demanded the release of detainees by Friday. The Ansar al-Islam group, however, says it will not commit to the ceasefire.
