Security camera captures Beirut bomb blast

Surveillance video has emerged which captures the moment a huge car bomb exploded near a restaurant in Beirut.

Friday’s blast killed intelligence chief Wissam al-Hassan and seven others. Many more people were injured.

Lebanese politicians have accused Syria of being behind the attack. Al-Hassan opposed the Syrian leadership.

His death has thrown Lebanon into a fresh crisis, exposing political and sectarian rifts.

Gunbattles on Monday in Beirut and Tripoli left at least seven people dead. Anti-government protesters, meanwhile, called on Prime Minister Najib Makati to resign.

The fear is that Syria’s civil war is now spreading to Lebanon, pitting allies and opponents of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad against each other.
