French president orders baby death probe

An inquiry’s been ordered after a pregnant woman’s baby died while she was en route to hospital in France.

The woman tried to deliver her child as her partner drove her to a maternity unit an hour away from their home in Figeac.

A nearby unit was closed in 2009, despite opposition from medical staff.

French president Francois Hollande reportedly said on Saturday that no citizen should be living more than 30 minutes away from emergency medical facilities.
