Anti-noise protest at Frankfurt airport

Thousands of people joined a protest near Frankfurt airport on Sunday, to vent their anger over aircraft noise.

They gathered on the first anniversary of the airport’s fourth runway, which they say has led to an increase in noise pollution in the south of the city.

Protesters normally gather inside the airport every Monday to make their voices heard.

They are calling for better noise prevention measures and for a ban on night flights to be extended.

Frankfurt airport is increasing its flight numbers from 490,000 to 700,000 a year and its passenger numbers from 56 million to more than 90 million.
