FBI foils plot to blow up New York Federal Reserve

Officials in New York have a foiled an attempt to blow up the city’s Federal Reserve building.

In an undercover sting operation FBI agents arrested a man for plotting to detonate what he believed was a massive bomb.

The suspect, a 21-year-old from Bangladesh had been under close surveillance for some time.

Quazi Mohammad Rezwanul Nafis was charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and attempting to provide material support to al Qaeda.

It is believed the plot was discovered by a contact of the suspect who tuned out to be an FBI informant.

An undercover agent sold Nafis what he thought were explosives and detonators who then allegedly assembled a bomb.

The FBI stepped in at the last moment but at no time was there any risk to the public.
