Turkey closes airspace to Syrian aircraft

Turkey has rejected calls from Damascus for dialogue to diffuse tensions over the Syrian border.

Ankara has closed its airspace to Syrian civilian aircraft, a day after Damascus prohibited Turkish Airlines from overflying Syria.

Both Syria and Moscow have denied claims that a jet intercepted last week by Turkey was carrying weapons.

The border town of Azmarin is calm for the moment, but this is a recent development. Amateur video footage is thought to show the aftermath of fierce fighting in the town.

Video said to show rebel fighters firing at an army plane on Sunday has also been posted. A plume of smoke can be seen in the distance.

Rebels have also uploaded footage of what they say is a mosque burning in the centre of Aleppo.
