An Israeli air strike on the Gaza Strip has killed one Palestinian and wounded at least two others, local doctors said on Saturday.

The strike targeted a motorcycle in the town of Jabaliya.

Israel said the man who died was the leader of a Salafist militant group.

Medics on the ground said one of the injured was a 12-year-old child.

Israeli officials said the strike was in response to a rocket attack that hit a house in southern Israel.

The rocket caused damage but no casualties.

There has been a flare-up in tit-for-tat cross-border violence in recent months, with Hamas and Islamic Jihad militants firing missiles into Israel.

According to the Israeli military, more than 480 rockets have been fired at southern Israel from Gaza this year.
