President Obama may be rubbing his hands together this Friday after the US jobless rate fell to 7.8 percent, its lowest level since January 2009, when he took office.

The result beat expectations, and one index of job gains registered its best figures since 1983.

Figures for July and August were also revised upwards by more than 80,000.

The drop in unemployment also came after Americans returned to the job market after two months of workforce shrinkage.

Only one more report on jobs is due before Americans go to the polls on November 6th.
