Turkey struck by deadly mortar from Syria

At least five people, among them four children, have been killed in Turkey by a mortar bomb fired from Syria.

The shell fell in the middle of a residential area, leaving up to a nine others injured, including three police officers.

It is not the first time the conflict in neighbouring Syria has affected Turkish territory.

The southeastern town of Akcakale was also struck on Friday by another mortar from Syria which left several buildings damaged.

In April, at least five people were killed when cross-border gunfire hit a Syrian refugee camp.
