A Moscow court has adjourned the appeal of jailed Russian punk band Pussy Riot until October 10.

One of the trio, Yekaterina Samutsevich, told the panel of judges that she no longer wanted to be represented by her lawyer.

The three women are appealing their two-year sentence for hooliganism motivated by religious hatred.

The band performed an anti-Putin song at the Moscow Cathedral of Christ the Saviour.

Another member of the Pussy Riot legal team Nikolai Polozov doubts the veracity of the row:

“The government sent officials to talk to them. they threatened to take away their children. They have attempted the same with their relatives. They are trying to find weak spots and drive the three apart.”

A number of pro-Pussy Riot protesters were arrested outside the court and musicians across the globe have condemned the treatment of the women. The case has come to symbolise the intolerance of dissent in Putin’s Russia.

Anti-Pussy Riot protesters also staged a demonstration saying if the women repent they should be freed.
