The bomber struck as a US troops patrolled the volatile eastern city of Khost. A witness claims the assailant was wearing a police uniform but the alliance has not confirmed the report.
It follows the killing of two Americans on Sunday in
an exchange of fire with Afghan forces that may have been the result of a misunderstanding. That incident took the death toll of U.S. military and civilian personnel to over 2,000.
