America’s Kelly Slater won the Hurley Pro surf competition in California on Thursday to claim his 50th ASP World Championship Tour victory.

The 40 year old outclassed Australia’s Joel Parkinson in the final at the Lower Trestles beach,
where he won his first contest as a professional surfer in 1992.

With four more events remaining in the season, Slater is currently lying in third place in the overall standings behind Parkinson and leader Mick Fanning.

The next event will be the Quiksilver Pro which gets underway in the South of France on the 28th of September.
