Turkish towns evacuated on border with Syria

The border village of Akcakale is being evacuated, as Syria’s civil war spills over into Turkey.

Rebels seized control of the Tal Abyad gate on Wednesday and government forces are pushing to take it back.

Akcakale’s mayor says a third of residents have been evacuated, and the rest are being warned to stay away.

This man explains how he has been forced from his home:

“I live on the border, right on it. This house is mine. We couldn’t sleep all night. I heard mortars and shelling from my house. Bombs are blasting about one kilometre away from here on the Syrian side. We’ve evacuated this area and moved to other villages.”
