It may seem contradictory but British fashion stalwart Vivienne Westwood is encouraging people to have a ‘less is more’ approach when it comes to buying clothes.

She said: ‘‘Of course I try not to waste and my way of not wasting is to try to concentrate on quality not quantity. And you know my message, it is buy less, choose well, make it last. Even better, don’t buy anything. Don’t buy any clothes for ages until you really have to.’‘

The show was held in the marble splendour of the British Foreign Office on the third day of London Fashion Week.

Westwood said the 1950s-inspired collection which included twinsets in icy pastels and Grace Kelly headscarves was a mix of ideas already used by the label, in keeping with her message of recycling.
