The Possession grips at the box office

Loosely based on a true story, The Possession is the tale of a young girl Em – played by Natasha Calis – who is taken over by a demon.

Horror films have long held a certain fascination, as director Ole Bornedal explains: “I think there is interest all around the planet on what evil is, where evil comes form. We are constantly trying to fight evil. We want to live good lives, what we can provide in doing adventures like we do is to make iconic stories about the good and evil.”

The Possession also stars Kyra Sedgwick and Jeffrey as Em’s recently separated parents.

Co-produced by Sam Raimi, the film is based on the true story of an old Jewish wine box, apparently haunted by a dybbuck, a spirit from Yiddish folklore.

The film is already on general release in the UK.
