After a disastrous Champions League campaign last season Manchester United will look to begin this year’s European assault in style when they host Galatasaray in their first Group H tie on Wednesday night.

But coach sir Alex Ferguson is under no illusions as to the danger his matchday one opponents pose.

Ferguson said: ‘‘I think that they are very strong in these (attacking) positions and I know from experience of playing against Turkish teams in the past that this is never easy so it will be very very close tomorrow.’‘

The other game in group H pits Braga against CFR Clujk of Romania.

Defending champions Chelsea kickstart their Group E campaign against Juventus as Danish champions Nordsjaelland begin their competition debut at Shakhtar Donestk.

Arjen Robben is doubtful as Bayern Munich host Valencia in Group F as Lille open up their account with a home game against Bate Borisov.

Celtic return to the champions league after a three year absence and face Benfica in Group G while four-times winners Barcelona entertain Spartak Moscow.
