As many as 12 people – mostly foreigners – have been killed in a suicide bomb attack in the Afghan capital Kabul.

The blast was claimed by the Hezb-e-Islami insurgent group in retaliation for an American film mocking the Prophet Mohammed.

The dead were travelling in a minibus which had pulled over to refuel on a main highway from the city to the international airport.

Eyewitnesses say the female suicide bomber was in a separate vehicle.

Most of the victims worked for an international courier company.

The blast took place a day after violent protests over the film “Innocence of Muslims” close to a US airbase.

It comes after NATO confirmed it would restrict operations with Afghan forces because of a recent increase in attacks.
