Xi Jinping returns to public eye

Quelling rumours about his health, China’s apparent leader-in-waiting Xi Jinping has visited Beijing University.

He is due to take over the running of China in around March next year, but his absence from the public eye is now being officially put down to his hurting his back while swimming. He had to cancel a number of high-profile engagements.

Chinese silence about Xi’s health, while not untypical, had been causing some concern and had sparked rumours of a serious illness, sudden attack, or even assassination attempt.
